Official Synopsis

Maci Bookout was just a normal, slightly overachieving high school girl in Chattanooga, Tennessee. But then she got pregnant, and everything turned upside down. Even as she rose to fame on MTV’s hit series Teen Mom, Maci was struggling to balance life as a single teen mom with her own hopes and dreams…all while honoring her own sense of independence.
This is the true story of how she took charge of the unexpected to build a life for herself and her son Bentley, and managed not to go crazy in the process. Because sometimes growing up is an act of will…and Maci’s will is bulletproof.

My Thoughts/Summary

One of my guiltiest pleasures is the MTV show “Teen Mom”. I started watching it years ago when the first few seasons were on Netflix, and I haven’t really stopped. I have this thing for reality tv, you see. However, throughout all the seasons of Teen Mom, Teen Mom 2, Teen Mom 3, Teen Mom OG etc etc, Maci has always been my favorite teen mom. It always seemed to me like she had the best head on her shoulders, wasn’t getting into pointless drama, and was really just trying to get the best for her son, Bentley.

I listened to the audiobook of this book because it was read by Maci herself, and I really liked the idea of hearing her tell her story. You could tell in parts that she was reading (obviously) however I wished it had just felt a little bit more seamless. All in all though, I really did enjoy this book. I enjoyed learning more about her relationship with Ryan and Kyle, and the truth about what happened with those.

I love that above all, Maci’s priority is being a good mom to her son. She has a new book out that I’d also like to get on audio to enjoy, just to catch up on her life. I love how open and honest she is about the hardships of being a teen mom, and stand by the fact that the show has helped decrease teen pregnancy.
